METROAREA ARCHITETTI CLADS VILLA IN IBIZA WITH BOARD FORMED CONCRETE AND BAMBOO SHUTTERS

Italian architecture studio metroarea has constructed a multi-storey residence on the Spanish island of Ibiza. The design of the remote dwelling is inspired by the Mediterranean’s vernacular architecture, taking its cues from roman villas, as well as the expressionist works of Italian architects Luigi Moretti and Giovanni Michelucci. The concept behind Metroarea’s design blends Mediterranean living with the natural landscape. From within the dwelling, a continuous relationship with the outside world is established through the use of large windows, while the canopies and custom-made bamboo shutters reference mashrabiya awnings and latticework. Internally, the house comprises three different levels — organically connected by paths and stairs, but physically divided by program.
