Acrylic pergola roof for Kanpur diner

Delhi-based Intaglio Design Studio has designed the Penthouse in Kanpur, an all-day diner located on a terrace in a busy street that reflects minimalistic vitality. Spread over 2,500 sq. ft., the project boasts of being fresh, tropical, serene yet comfortable.

A short foyer leads the user to the various seating options for 60 seats, which has an adjacent stage to host live performances. Wooden textures, tropical and neon lights come together to complement the five four-seater tables in a warm grey tone. Sofas in similar shades are placed alongside a monotone wall along with a booth seating crowned by a series of green arches. A hanging sofa placed under a rustic lamp; vines and arched windows are separated from the sections by sheer white curtains.

A pergola roof with acrylic sheets shelters diners from rain and dust and promotes the ambience of a cabana amid nature. They create shadows in the daytime and light up with fairy lights in the evening, with ambient wall-mounted lighting and suspended hanging climbers that further add to the ‘tropical’ aesthetic. The patterned flooring is altered with wooden textures near the booth seating to demarcate the area, with an interesting colour palette of warm grey, white, wooden brown and tropical green.

Service areas are designated towards the rear end, and a staircase with a separate entrance is used by staff to cater to orders through the first-floor kitchen. This also offers services to the offline café located on the ground floor as well, making it easily accessible to both servers and customers.
