Architects Work From Home: Ar. Dinesh Panwar explores the new normal

Though we couldn’t extract all the important data from our office servers, the team has the time to design, conceptualize and share presentations with clients. Hence, planning and time management are two important things to ensure an effective work-from-home experience.

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted the architecture and design firms, and several reputed architects have shared their insights on the effect of the virus on their firms, the industry and the challenges posed by the work-from-home policy. Today, we share a conversation with Ar. Dinesh Panwar, Principal Architect, Urbanscape Architects, who believes that planning and time management can make for a successful work-from-here experience.

The architecture and design industry has been affected by the COVID-19 crisis due to the halt of on-site construction and the non-availability of labor. Even if the situation normalizes by mid-April, there won’t be any sustainable development until the end of May. Therefore, we fear a three-month setback for all our projects with deadlines.

Though the project conceptualization can be done from home, such as with sketches, extracting data from our office servers is not practical. Though the team has the time to design and share presentations with clients, the work-from-home policy remains a challenge. First of all, we didn’t have the time to extract the data from our studio as the lockdown was enforced at short notice. Secondly, there are challenges in installing different software on individual machines. Hence, planning and time management are two important things to ensure an effective work-from-home experience.

After the lockdown is relaxed, it would be a slow process to get work on track because of labor issues, the procurement of raw material and the delivery of finished goods ordered from overseas.
