Calming colour palette for renovated Dahod residence

Dahod-based Spaces by FaB has redesigned the Bungalow, which is a residence spanning 1300 sq. ft. The client wanted an open airy space with minimum maintenance, a traditional ambience and a connection to nature. Due to no furniture, they wanted ample storage for all their needs. Flexible spaces, minimal design and a welcoming environment were the basic elements needed. Thus, the firm wanted to integrate the new user requirements and materials into the existing space.

They wanted to maximise the home’s classic traditional elements, bring in natural light and blend furnishings and accessories for a comfortable ambience. A soothing colour palette of English blue, coral pink, sage green and grey is chosen. The original space was built around fourteen years on a load-bearing structure, and the firm wanted to retain its authenticity, and execute contemporary designs and functionality into the space. Also, the client was living in the house during the execution, which was one of the challenges.

The entrance has a two-toned wall decorated with artwork that suggests movement, and moves on to the colour-matched ceiling. Divisions in the ceiling allow for concealed lighting to brighten up spaces, and nature is brought in through indoor and outdoor plants. The living room uses wall mouldings, a plaster-of-Paris medallion around the fan and a Persian carpet.

Seating is divided into two segments: a grey velvet upholstered seating paired with traditional seating. Wooden moulding and panelled walls painted in English blue, a white painted module on the false ceiling and matte black fixtures create drama. A flexible breakfast niche doubles as a console and a workspace for two. The kitchen uses neutral tones and natural materials to bring in airiness and energy, along with storage, equipment and focused lighting for productivity.

The master bedroom blends traditional and contemporary forms with materials and textures to create a soothing palette. The son’s bedroom has baby pink and blue, and the space becomes a modern one with a multi-generational ambience.
