Courtyard-centric farmhouse for multi-generational Delhi family

New Delhi-based Design Ethics Architecture Studio has designed the Savoyard House, a farmhouse project at the foothills of the Aravalli mountain range with greenery spread over an area of 4.7 acres. Catering to a multi-generation family of two brothers and their parents, the residence had to accommodate every individual’s lifestyle. Built on a manicured plot spread over 30,000 sq. ft., the design was to highlight the spectacular views.

An expansive lawn represents the clients’ active social lives with the outer skin of the farmhouse structured to provide maximum surface area facing the lawn. A modern European-inspired architectural style is chosen with double-height arches and fluted detailing on the arch columns. Cornices are designed at multiple levels, while a patina finish on the railings add to the vintage design. Roughly-cut stone fins on the upper level signify modern architecture that double folds down as a louvered system. Large overhanging balconies and open corridors with colonnades merge to create an antiquated experience. A central deck area is dedicated to outdoor seating with a splash pool that merges into the central lawn, elegantly decorated with greenery.

A traditional courtyard in the center doubles up for events and parties, around which the living spaces are planned. Public and private areas are segregated on the ground and the first floor respectively. Formal spaces such as the living, dining, kitchen, cigar, and guest bedrooms are designated to the ground floor. Additionally, a suite for the parents is directly connected to the front courtyard. Two master suites and the children’s bedrooms are on the first floor, which maximizes order and functionality while maintaining privacy.
