Ethnic accents for Chennai home

Chennai-based Pencil and Monk has designed the Amara Avana, a 4BHK private residence comprising design, art and technology. Sprawling across 4500 sq. ft., the project maximizes luxury and comfort with muted colors, ethnic accents and a warm material palette. Moving inside, one is greeted by a sculptural wooden wall in the entranceway.

A wooden-louvered screen takes them to the open-plan living and dining area, which feature Botticino marble flooring, natural light and a suspended crystal curtain. The state-of-the-art speakers embedded into the walls add a surround-sound and immersive theatrical experience. A personal artwork collection is displayed throughout the house, leading to the magnetic kitchen.

This allowed the owners to store their magnetic spice jars, along with blending easy accessibility and installation. The metal sheet was magnetized, on top of which cement was applied and decorated with Indian block-print impressions. The four bedrooms are minimalist and peaceful, with floor-to-ceiling wardrobes and patterned surfaces.
