FEED celebrates 20 years with eminent architect B V Doshi
20 years ago, eminent architect Padmashri A P Kanvinde and Dr Arun Negvekar, (then Vice Chancellor of Pune University) inaugurated FEED (Forum for Exchange and Excellence in Design) in Pune.
Today, FEED hosts Padmashri Balkrishna Doshi (2018 Pritzker Prize winner and the only Indian to get this award) at the FEED platform.
A closed event, Ar. B V Doshi will be in conversation with Ar. Prof. Neelkant Chhaya from Ahmedabad and Ar. Prof. Narendra Dengle from Pune from 6 pm to 8 pm today, at Annabhau Sathe Auditorium. The event will be attended by approximately 800 FEED members, consisting of mainly students, heads and faculty members from 20 schools of architecture from Pune plus eminent practicing architects and professionals.
FEED completed 20 years of its journey on July 6th. More than 260 events have been held over the last two decades. Ar. Doshi will also release Decade Two, a book celebrating FEED’s 20-year-journey.
Over these decades, FEED has had over 259 presentations which include international speakers like Ar. Charles Jencks, Ar. Martha Schwartz , Ar. Richard Cass, Ar. John Thompson from U.K and Ar. Kay Ngee Tan (Singapore / London). Prominent Indian speakers who have presented their works include Ar. Charles Correa, Ar. Uttam Jain, Ar. Brinda Somaya, Ar. T. Khareghat, Ar. Hafeez Contractor, Ar. P.K. Das, and more.
FEED has also hosted speakers from allied fields include Management Consultant Dr. George Judah, Environmentalist Ashish Kothari, Historian Ninad Bedekar amongst others.
Each FEED talk is attended by 500 to 600 students & professionals who become FEED members by paying an annual subscription. Approximately 12 talks are organized in a year, six per semester in the months from July to Sept and December to February when the academic session is active.
The Forum aims to create a platform for architecture students and professionals where they can be exposed to various facets of Art, Culture, Heritage, Design, Technology, Environment, and allied fields in addition to the academic curriculum already being pursued in various institutes.
FEED has been organizing various programs such as seminars, group discussions, workshops, film shows, demonstrations, performances, exhibitions etc., from time to time with the help of principals, faculty members and students of all colleges of architecture in Pune.
