Rainforest-inspired design for Mumbai apartment
Mumbai-based Pentaspace has designed the Rainforest, which was to retain maximum rainforest trees on the site while maximizing the view for 11 residential towers.
The topography of the site was heavily contoured ranging from 0 to 13 m. The buildings were planned in a staggered form to maximize the view of the Powai Lake and the Aarey Colony, the ‘no-development’ zone and site topography so that a minimum of trees needed replanting. An axis of least resistance was mapped on the site with respect to all factors.
The elevation and project detailing was conceptualized around the rainforest trees, making it a themed residential project. The elevation of the 11 buildings reflects the symbol of the tree trunk and its branches. The foliage was expressed as a design feature, making it an integral part of the design. The architectural language reflected the natural surroundings.
The earthy color of the facades, the landscape elements and the drop-off canopies all reflected the rainforest jungle, with the drop-off areas designed as tree canopies.
Almost 50 per cent of the site was covered with landscape elements enhancing the green aspect of the building, and over an acre of land was landscaped with the theme of the Amazon rainforest. The swimming pool was designed to use the flow of water as a water body as well as filtration process and infuse the sound of the waterfall into the micro ecosystem, creating a holistic natural environment for residents.
