Former director of Swiss design school Ecal, dies at 74

Pierre Keller, studied graphic design at ECAL, graduated in 1965, became a renowned graphic designer, represented his country at numerous international biennials and has won several prizes.

His connection with ECAL continued as he joined as the director in 1995. Under Keller’s guidance, the school became renowned for its graphics, photography and industrial design departments. One of his advances was to bring in international brands to set real-world briefs for students while generating income for the school, a practice that has since been adopted by other leading schools.

Keller headed the school from 1995 to 2011, transforming it into one of the world’s most influential design schools. The graphic artist and former director took his last breath on 7th July, and many designers and students have paid their respect and tribute.
