Greek ambience for Bengaluru cafe

Photography: Places and Spaces

Bengaluru-based DS2 Architecture has designed the Café Azzure, which is a café situated 10 kilometres away from the Kempegowda International Airport. It aims to reflect the pristine serenity of Santorini in the Aegean Islands in its Greek architecture and material vocabulary. It occupies the third and terrace floor of the east-facing property and amalgamates an international visual language while remaining local.

One is greeted by a white brick wall at the entrance, with an azure-coloured double door with frosted glass inserts. Blues, cane and wood create a quaint and stylish environment. The indoor space accommodates families and large gatherings, and wooden flooring and ceramic tiles segregate the semi-private and private zones. Tiles, cane lighting and the blue fluted columns maintain an ambience of varied traditional influences.

The terrace welcomes more visitors, and blue arches open up to the expansive airport road and hills. It is divided into three sections, both sides with smaller configurations and the centre with two and four configurations. A higher step and brown panelling on the left and seating carved from white textured curvilinear walls run across the right wing, and the central area has stamped concrete flooring. The oven can be viewed from multiple angles and is covered with white bricks and blue ceramic tiles for a rustic ambience.
