Mumbai-based Anish Motwani Associates designed the Smile Alliance dental clinic, a challenging project, within a limited time and budget. Spread over 630 sq. ft., the original site was a space with walls that leaked and in need of plastering.
Aluminium composite panel and acrylic display board with indirect lights were used for the front façade. Aluminium fins with LED linear lights and plants were used in the entrance façade for a lighter and cost-effective alternative to solid wood. Glass front, colorful chairs and traditional floral wallpaper was used for the reception area. An LED TV screen can be seen from the main road through a glass partition, serving as a digital display screen. LED lights have been used as they do not emit heat and save electricity.
As ready-made material was not possible for the project, the project called for a lot of on-site conceptualisation, planning and designing. Three dental chairs and microscopes were fitted keeping the plumbing lines in mind. A dental chair and desk for interaction were constructed for the main dentist’s cabin, while an additional two chairs were designated for visiting dentists. White and lighter colors were used, with green floral wallpaper and polished wooden panels in an abstract pattern from the floor to ceiling.
