Open green spaces for Mumbai’s Bandra bandstand

Mumbai-based architecture and landscape firm Atelier ARBO and the Municipal Counsellor Mr. Asif Zakaria has designed the Bandstand Park 1 at Bandra (West), which intends to make use of green spaces in the compactly-populated city.

Designed in three zones, the 955 sq. mt. park presents an interrupted panorama of the sea with seating along the parapet wall to view the sunset as well. A musical garden for one of the bandstand park has been created to garner attention in the park.

Centrally-located outdoor playground areas have been designed for children, the lack of which has impacted their physical, social and mental health. It cements the importance of a child-centric ward, which only motivates more architects to build play areas over the years. Different kinds of games have been demarcated on the floor alongside two curved seating areas.

A seating enclosed in wooden trellis supports the climbing plants, forming a green roof and inviting in light and shadow. It redefines the tranquillity and openness that characterize open spaces.
