Mumbai-based architecture and design consultancy firm The Canvas Design has designed The Hive collaborative workspace in Chennai. The design brief wanted to create an environment of observation, curiosity, and interaction among employees. There is a rich material palette consisting of both traditional and modern material keeping with the brief.

The firm implemented local elements such as the decorative lamp Tokri, rangoli in vinyl prints on the wall and floor, plants, blinds, wooden floors, Chinese mosaic tiles, and backdrop graphics. Along with open working systems, the space boasts of a yoga room, interactive areas, a terrace garden, cafeteria, and a crèche. The relaxation areas have compact and cozy meeting lounges with mobile furniture. Wooden and concrete flooring has been primarily used for the project, with laminate storage and a handpainted rangoli for the cafeteria and lounge. There is back-painted glass throughout the office along with brick cladding.
