Nature-inspired aesthetics for Indore home

Photography: Ruuhchitra and Viplove Jain

Indore-based Span Architects has designed the Yellow Stone House, which is a 5 BHK private residential condominium spread over 7200 sq. ft. As the name suggests, the home is named after the yellow stone cladding along the façade. The elevation’s walls incline at an angle taking it away from the two-dimensional structure, along with transparent surfaces and large openings with natural ventilation and light. The house splits into three levels, which has its public and service requirements accommodated on the ground floor. The parking area also functions as a multi-utility area, while a staircase carries one to the main door.

Upon entering the first floor, one reaches the formal living room that extends into the open terrace. Enclosed in glass walls, the room invites interaction and openness with its yellow stone walls, nature-inspired fabric colours and wooden ceiling. The heart of the home has a staircase and a double-height internal courtyard finished with the yellow stone, and activities revolve around this vertical volume. It also houses a puja room, and the walls of the staircase taper in the same manner as the elevation façade and openings.

The second floor has the bedrooms, bar and a semi-open terrace to entertain family and friends against the backdrop of the cityscape. Following the concept, a nature-inspired colour palette of green and earthy brown is used. Nature-inspired wall paintings and angular pivot doors are the focal points, and the alignment with nature helps maintain a healthy lifestyle.
