Neutral color palette for Delhi apartment

New Delhi-based Karan Aakriti Interior Design has designed the Dhingra Residence, a residential project for a family of four who wanted to spend quality time together. As they entertain guests quite often, the design was to be sophisticated yet comfortable. The home encompasses a living room, dining area, multimedia room, kitchen, three bedrooms with attached washrooms, a service area, and a balcony. The firm had to redesign the existing layout, which only had the dining area and the multimedia room as the guest bedroom.

An L-shaped tan leather upholstered sofa and an animal printed ottoman form the major furniture pieces in the living room, along with a light-grey chenille two-seater. Antique mirrors in the background with tropical-inspired wallpaper bring volume to the narrow space. A matte tall charcoal-grey PU bar wall adds boldness, with golden-framed wall moldings behind the sofa.

A multipurpose partition forms the entrance, highlighting and visually expanding the common area between the living room and dining room. The black metal see-through hanging partition at the entrance acts as a display for the accent décor and the dining area, binding the two spaces together. Since the dining area is part of the main passageway, bench seating on one side increases walking space. A marble dining table, fabric-clad chairs, PU paint on the bench, and globe hanging lights add glamour to the area.

Modern lines with a neutral color palette are chosen for the master bedroom on the right. A maroon sofa and cushions add color along with an artwork piece. A mid-century vibe comprises the daughter’s bedroom with a cane storage area, wardrobe with molding, and deer antlers above the bed. An emerald-green chenille bed with floral-printed cushions and ottoman complete the look.

The son’s bedroom on the left side of the passageway has fluted glass shutters on the wardrobe, creating an interesting texture. A black leatherette bed and a TV unit designed in white marble symbolize luxury in the bedroom. A bay window extension in the balcony invites natural light into the multimedia room, which is warmed by pinewood furniture. The design is completed with grey painted walls and a black metal bookshelf behind the low L- shaped seating.
