Simple redesign for Mumbai café

Mumbai-based Studio Pomegranate has designed the Miss T Colaba, which is an all-day bakery and street café that aimed to open up to the street and connect with the neighbourhood. The clients wanted to convert the erstwhile Met 13 from an Asian restaurant into a dining space with café, bakery, pizzeria and bar. They did not want to damage or replace too much of the small space.

A line of racks on the left wall displays bread, which continues on to become a bar. The firm visually opened up the space by painting the surfaces while the racks were polished black, increasing contrast and liveliness. Mood lighting was rearranged to set the ambience at different times of the day. They designed a small storage and display space for baked goods on the shelves, which would be adjusted as required. A tall table inserted into the opposite wall accommodates six seating spaces.

Light-coloured flooring is laid in an angled pattern, surrounded by polished dark plywood shelves. Illumination comes in from a circular skylight above, and the arrangement offers contrast in display. Seating was rearranged to provide more seating and conversation space. A skylight inside the main area is opened up for two-table and four-table seating, allowing for a live pizza display. A dispensary bar on the left of the pizza kitchen has polished black shelves, and the space beyond remains the kitchen and service areas.
