South Indian flavour for a Surat residence

Surat-based Muse Architects has designed the Earth Abode, which is a 3BHK residential project spanning 1890 sq. ft. The client hailing from southern India wanted to incorporate their culture and design with a contemporary twist in an urban context. The living room follows a warm colour palette resembling the tropical architecture of South India, along with wicker furniture with wooden textures. The cane detailing at the bottom of the sofa is accompanied by a customised wooden table to warm up the space, combined with the greys to create a connection between the two design aspects.

The adjoining dining space follows a similar ideology, with cane furniture contrasting the classic French-themed white kitchen. The dining table’s legs resemble a wooden column that is commonly found in traditional South Indian homes. Moving up to the master bedroom, one finds wooden and wicker furniture with a cane finish and a headboard layered with colours to add playfulness. The white bedroom has a white wardrobe with grey PU, bringing in colour, life and character.

Traditional Indian patterns are carved on the furniture legs, and an embossed pattern on the MDF is PU-coated in a matte finish. An arched mirror adjacent to the study area breaks the concept of rigid corners through its form and texture.
