Colours have a major impact on the human mind, which is formally called colour psychology. Vibrant colours are associated with Indian culture, beliefs and lifestyle. The most popular colours are blue, yellow, red, purple, pink and green while black and white are traditionally absent. Choosing the right colour forms an important part of the design as it influences a space’s aesthetic, design and décor.

Ar. Anil Badan, Principal Architect, Studio B Architects, New Delhi has worked on several hospitality projects through colourful décor and furnishings. He says, “Most global hotel brands have a brand guideline where the project’s design must be inspired by the location’s regional and cultural beauty. We must translate these indigenous influences within a contemporary setting through patterned upholstery, colourful rugs and furniture, digital wallpaper and décor pieces.”

Ar. Robin Sisodiya, Founder and Principal Architect, ASRO Arcade Architects, Gurugram believes in contemporary minimalism when designing residences. He says, “We achieve high-end luxury design by selecting the right colour scheme, as the colour communicates the project’s visual identity. Neutral colour palettes are versatile and timeless with their warm undertones and look impactful with colourful furniture and décor pieces. This maintains a sophisticated balance between neutral and deeper colours.”

Thus, the balance remains the key regardless of the colour scheme chosen in design, which evokes a particular reaction.
