Wooden charm for Shimla cottage

New Delhi-based Design & Build designed the Blissful Oldoaks, a residential project in Shimla that exudes a laid-back charm. Spread over 2000 sq. ft., it uses natural materials that blend in with the overall design.

Cottage-style interiors accompany clear white ceilings, with the extensive use of wood on the walls and ceilings. A wooden fireplace with handcrafted marble and beige sofas are used in the living room, which has hanging lights that reflect the ambience of a cabin in the hills. A five-seater round dining table in a wooden finish takes center stage in the dining room, lit by a minimalist chandelier.

The kitchen on the left side of the entrance features a white marble counter, bar stools, a wooden console, and lamps along with natural veneer. A set of stairs in white and wood lead up to the upper floors. In some places, the wood is painted white for a brighter look, which is further accentuated with neutral shades of paint, exquisite furniture, bed backs and natural fiber rugs. Pale-blue and off-white colors are used for the bedroom, which is layered up with blankets, cushions, throws, and warm-toned rugs to visually soften the hard floors. Artwork following a pale pink color scheme brightens up the corners, which complement the natural light flowing in through the windows.
