Bottleship Mark 2 by Ernst Race for Isokon Plus
1.89k
Ernest Race was invited by Jack Pritchard to redesign Egon Riss’s original Isokon Penguin Donkey and Bottleship in 1963 – originally designed by Egon Riss in the 1930s.
Instead of the original bent birch structure, Race opted for a more linear shape while respecting the original brief of the product, which serves to store books and magazines and as a side table. Once the foldable top is opened, the Bottle Ship Mark 2 unveils a hidden compartment devised to store glasses and spirit bottles for an evening drink.
Only a limited number were produced in the 1960s but the piece was brought back into production by Isokon Plus in 2015 and it is now available in birch and walnut.
