Architects Work From Home: Ar. Rinka D’Monte explores the new normal

“As an architect, I have discovered online courses on art and architecture – topics that hold interest to me. I hold a post-graduate degree in Indian Art and Aesthetics from Janapravaha and enjoy studying modern art and artists. I watch TED talks about art from different museums, along with Coursera and EdX.org courses.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the architecture and design industry and has resulted in a delay in ongoing and future projects. No sourcing of materials, no physical inspection, and missed project deadlines in many cases have incurred huge losses. Today, we share the insights of Ar. Rinka D’Monte, Atelier ARBO (OPC) Private Limited, Mumbai.

“The work-from-home policy has been a struggle since the first day of inception, in terms of organizing the time to work, schedule staff meetings, and client calls. Our days include taking care of our loved ones, housework, and professional work – in that particular order. Though the number of work hours has reduced, it has cut down on social interaction as well. Architecture and design involve interacting with people, which has affected the development of our projects.”

“Our team has worked in international competitions during the lockdown as it helps us perfect our designs and presentation styles. As a young firm, we have developed our skills for drawing representations partly completed in watercolor and on the computer. The process kept our creative juices alive and us together with a team, as we figured urban design issues.”

“As an architect, I have discovered online courses on art and architecture – topics that hold interest to me. I hold a post-graduate degree in Indian Art and Aesthetics from Janapravaha and enjoy studying modern art and artists. I watch TED talks about art from different museums, along with Coursera and EdX.org courses. I used to spend two hours commuting to work, but I can enjoy these talks due to less physical stress.”
