Architects Work From Home: Ar. Shami Goregaoker explores the new normal

“I believe that we have become more humane in the last two months, and that change is good if you come out with more experience and enlightenment.”

– Des. Shami Goregaoker, Design Director, GA Design, Mumbai.

The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the architecture and design industry and has resulted in a delay in ongoing and future projects. No sourcing of materials, no physical inspection, and missed project deadlines in many cases have incurred huge losses. Today, we share the insights of Des. Shami Goregaoker, Design Director, GA Design, Mumbai.

“We were quite apprehensive a day before the national lockdown was imposed – which files to carry home, access to network and software on employees’ home computers, sharing and saving files in their correct locations. The duration of the lockdown was unforeseen so, of course, there were problems with the staff unable to access and share files.”

“Thankfully, Sachin (my husband) and I work together. Nonetheless, I wondered if I should prioritize household chores over office work as it was manic balancing home and work responsibilities. Now that things have settled down, we can work in our comfort zones, upskill ourselves, and enjoy hobbies despite the physical exhaustion. Also, not worrying about our appearance and timeliness is a blessing.”
