Architects Work From Home: Des. Ritu Goregaoker explores the new normal

“It is the time where we have started to breathe again, gather resources, and stay together as a nation.”

–         Des. Ritu Goregaoker, Design Director, GA Design, Mumbai

The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the architecture and design industry and has resulted in a delay in ongoing and future projects. No sourcing of materials, no physical inspection, and missed project deadlines in many cases have incurred huge losses. Today, we share the insights of Des. Ritu Goregaoker, Design Director, GA Design, Mumbai.

“The pandemic brought our life to a standstill, and humanity suddenly experienced and struggled with the loss of momentum. However, we took a breath, slowed down, and accepted the situation as it is. We connected with our team and decided on a plan of action to work from home remotely.”

“However there are challenges in going back-and-forth with work and delegation. We are trying to finish work as much as possible. We chat, share stories, and discuss architecture and design, and debate what the future may bring.”

“On a brighter side, we appreciate early mornings and evenings devoid of monotonous travel. A simple walk on the terrace keeps the body and mind fresh and active, which is rare in Mumbai. Living in South Mumbai, we now see the Dadar skyline that was impossible all these years. Like everyone else, we are now able to enjoy our time with our loved ones, pets, and nature.”

“It is the time where we have started to breathe again, gather resources, and stay together as a nationThings that had been lost have been reinforced, and we have begun to appreciate the people who work at our homes. Thus, they will be welcomed back into our house and hearts as soon as the virus is under control.”
