Blend of aesthetics and functionality for New Delhi home

New Delhi-based The Works Interiors has designed the Treetops, which is the designers’ apartment spanning 1800 sq. ft. Located beside a park with lush trees, the residence is conceived for a small family and their Golden Retriever. The clients wanted a home that reflected their love for travel, oceans, books and family. The 3BHK home follows an open-plan layout without visual or physical partitions and follows a grey colour palette.

The living room comprises the family area and dining space with various seating arrangements: a soft-grey sofa, deep-grey lounge chairs and a black-and-white lounge bench in a houndstooth pattern. Pet-friendly and the low-maintenance fabric is used for the upholstery, and open shelves at the back display books and memorabilia. Natural materials such as wood and stone add warmth, such as a slanted oakwood ceiling with elegant lighting.

The dining space uses aesthetic, comfortable and functional wooden furniture. The walls of the third bedroom converted into a walk-in closet are demolished and replaced with sliding doors to lead to the living and dining area. Shaped as a boomerang, the six-seater dining table doubles up as a work-from-home desk. The sustainably-sourced oakwood table stands on stained black legs and has a matte melamine finish to achieve a burnt dark grey look.

The walk-in wardrobe consists of tall storage spaces with fabric-sandwiched sliding shutters, which are clad with large tinted mirrors to visually expand the space. Tropical printed wallpaper resembles the family’s love for oceans and beaches, and central island stores jewellery and accessories. The master bedroom follows a light-grey palette with a patterned wooden ceiling, and the daughter’s room has a queen-size bed beside a large window.

Bespoke furniture is made from sustainably-sourced kiln-dried oakwood worked upon by local artisans, such as the sleek wave console at the entrance representing the ups and downs of life. The timber console is furnished with restored veneer and a blue underbelly and is fixed on a designated wall one inch above the floor.
