Canadian Wood presents webinar with Ar. Derek Newby

Forestry Innovation Consulting India Pvt. Ltd., also known as Canadian Wood, presented a webinar on the Developments in Mass Timber Architecture with Ar. Derek Newby. He was invited to present his views due to his experience with mixed-use, office and academic facilities for private and public sector clients. A LEED-accredited and Certified Passive House Designer, Ar. Newby advocates reducing greenhouse gas emissions in buildings using passive housing principles.

The webinar began with discussing the benefits of building mass timber structures due to wood’s ability to reduce emissions, its fast-paced building process and cost. Ar. Newby introduced the audience to engineered wood products such as cross-laminated timber, glue-laminated timber, mass plywood panel, nail-laminated timber, dowel-laminated timber along with prefabrication and modular techniques that optimize mass timber construction projects. The highlights of the presentation were architectural case studies and projects in mass timber from Canada, with a focus on misconceptions related to wood-building benefits such as durability, fire safety, seismic performance, insect, acoustics and mold/insect-resistance.

The webinar concluded with a Q&A session with Ar. Newby, experts from Canadian Wood and the audience. As per the client, the questions raised by the audience demonstrates the curiosity in exploring with wood in structural applications beyond the present scenario.
