A School Disappearing Into The Sky

The Almost Invisible School, Spain
ABLM Arquitectos, Spain

Design brief and aim:
The school was proposed as a reflection on the kind of infrastructure, where the little ones must find spaces that they can catch, and places with which they can dream.

How this was accomplished:
The architects designed the 2,600 sq m building for a neighborhood which is transforming into an increasingly industrial area.
The upper storey of the school is clad in mirrored panels of composite aluminum to reflect the surroundings and visually reduce the scale of the building; a facade clad in brightly colored ceramics surrounds the playgrounds at ground level while the underside of the canopy that extends out to shelter the entrance is covered in the same mirrored cladding, reflecting the tiled pattern onto the ceiling.
The interiors are planned with colorful elements to enhance joyful feelings .The seven tile colors,  ranging from pink to maroon and green, are intended to symbolise the individuality of every boy and girl attending the school. Inside, translucent walls and pale flooring are offset by areas of strong turquoise and red wall paneling.

Happily ever after
The fun and interesting exterior excites children and encourages them to play.
