Sequential School Campus

The Heritage Residential School, Pune
Madhav Joshi and Associates, Pune

Design brief and aim
The emphasis was to design a residential school with a concept of ‘serial vision ‘being an inherent part of the campus design.

How this was accomplished
The co-ed residential school has two sections; a residential cluster and an academic cluster. The residential cluster comprises 10 dormitories, 5 studio apartments for wardens, a residence for the principal and a student's centre. The academic cluster consists of 14 classrooms, 3 laboratories, 2 teacher’s rooms and 2 toilet blocks. A catering center with a dining hall and adequate service area was also provided.
The structure features a composite stone wall, formfinish concrete and infill of brick walls with aggregate plaster that brings about a cohesiveness in the overall design. The unbuilt space defines the fabric of the built, with high and low volumes juxtaposed to contain spaces of institutional character as well as human scale. Also, the angular geometry induces oblique movement, creating an eventful journey.

How green was my project
‘Solar passive architecture’ has been celebrated with aesthetic sense in a manner that the buildings has been positioned in respect to the terrain, the use of skylights maximizing daylight  and thermally insulated roofs with terracotta tiles. All these attribute the green character to the building.

Happily ever after
The architectural intervention gives back to nature in a manner that students would wish to spend their vacations too on the campus.
