Architects Work From Home: Ar. Abhigyan Neogi explores the new normal

“I believe that this is a great time to retrospect our past projects; for example, we have collected our projects in the past ten years and analyzed every design aspect to prepare us for the future. Discipline is needed even when you’re working from home to maintain productivity levels, but you should detach from work when needed.”

— Ar. Abhigyan Neogi, Founder, Chromed Design Studio

Given the ongoing pandemic, we shall continue our series of well-known architects who have spoken about the impact of COVID-19 on their firm and how they combat it in a work-from-home format. Today, we share the insights by Ar. Abhigyan Neogi, Founder, Chromed Design Studio, New Delhi. In today’s article, he has spoken about how work-from-home can be used as a time to rejuvenate, recreate and gain new experiences to implement in future designs.

Architecture is an on-ground activity, where you have to be physically present to inspect a site. We need to interact with clients and team members alike to discuss several things, which is a major challenge when you’re working from home. It could be a viable option if it’s an individualistic approach, but it is not possible for larger collaborative projects. Having said that, it is in the best interests of the people to practice self-isolation at this time. However, it is equally important to keep up with the latest news developments from reputable sources. The challenge is to define working hours and accountability of work from you’re working from home.

The COVID-19 outbreak has brought the world to a standstill, and there is no scope for new architectural projects. Architects have been using this time to future-proof their designs and prepare for the future after the quarantine period. Around 30 per cent of the architects invest in being well-equipped at the moment, while there is no monetary transaction for the remaining 70 per cent. As the construction units are shut as well, it would take at least two months to service labor services as they have returned home. It would take thirty days tp resume normal services after the quarantine period is over.

I believe that this is a great time to retrospect our past projects; for example, we have collected our projects in the past ten years and analyzed every design aspect to prepare us for the future. Discipline is needed even when you’re working from home to maintain productivity levels, but you should detach from work when needed. Our team of dedicated individuals are aware of their duties and work diligently to achieve their targets, despite the lack of face-to-face interaction. As per the standard procedure, one can print the design layout to understand it thoroughly. Once we get back to the office after the quarantine, we shall pool our learnings and analysis gained during the work-from-home period and implement it in our designs.
