Singapore-based architecture and design firm RSP has designed the Ecospace Business Park in New Town, Kolkata. It is Kolkata’s first multi-user business spark, which spans over an area of 20 acres surrounded by natural greenery and seasonal colors. It comprises over 2 million sqft of office space and followed the client brief to create a contemporary design that advocated the perfect work-life balance.

An eco-friendly and future-forward campus was designed, which conforms to the notion of a sustainable real-estate model. The business park consists of high-end amenities such as a swimming pool, gymnasium, food court, sports lounge, club, and a hotel. Polystyrene or AAC thermal blocks (50mm thickness) were laid over RCC slabs to present a reflective coating on the finished surface. Locally-sourced terracotta was used for landscape pavement, while bricks were used for the masonry walls. Water-based emulsion paints (which are free of lead, chromium, and tin) with heat-insulating and anti-microbial properties have been used.

Four sides have been designed with maximum campus visibility and building interiors, treated with exclusive and regular material depending on the functional aspects. Built-in landscaping, water bodies, greenery, groves, and natural light have been emphasized upon. A waterfall and pond insulates the space from external noise and has been fitted with a water recycling and sewage treatment plant system. Being a zero-discharge design, HVAC, electricity and water services were carefully chosen to enhance energy efficiency.

Polished granite has been used in the main lobby and parking area, with textured paint for the service areas. Glass curtain walls, textured paint, and ACP cladding continue along the main body acting as both decorative and functional elements. Maintenance-free and cost-effective materials have been chosen for the roof, which is equally visually appealing for modern design.
