Comfort food inspiration for Bengaluru restaurant

Bengaluru-based interior design studio Retale Design Solutions has designed the Khichdi Experiment, which offers a modern upgrade to the comfort and nostalgia of home-made khichdi. Catering to its tagline of ‘kuch apna, kuch naya’, the design makes one feel at home yet in a contemporary setting.

Yellow rexine has been used to create the primary color palette resembling khichdi and the warmth that it provides. Complemented with prominently louvered wooden doors and windows, the design uses customized tiles to highlight the bright colors. The artwork on the wall with the turban adds to the mood, and a jaali partition reminds one of the houses in Rajasthan. Cane baskets, furniture, and utensils add to the décor, while lanterns scattered around the store takes us back to our native days. Kadappa tile flooring and terracotta jaali blocks comprise the sustainable element of the project.

Appropriate vendors and sources were connected with to procure the materials along with including visual merchandising elements. MS ladders provided with shadow boxes and a storage area made of pine wood encourage branding. On the other hand, a chipboard counter has been customized with MS design elements. A spatula wall is created to add a fun yet relatable element to the décor.
