As the festive season approaches, people rejoice in bringing forth fortune, hope, and happiness. Due to the prevailing pandemic, they have to find solutions to celebrate at home. One can express joy in redecorating their spaces and savor their time together with loved ones. Des. Sujata Chitalwala, Principal Designer, Designer’s Group, Mumbai shares information on home décor decorating in the festive season.

• Walls

Wall express individuality in a house, such as wooden walls. For example, wooden-louvered walls are used in the entrance lobby at the Jagtap Residence, while brick-designed wallpaper is chosen for the bedroom. The Intergenerational Penthouse has rose-gold brass metal and mirror strips in an alternating pattern, with backlighting.

• Headboards and footboards

A well-designed headboard adds a cozy ambiance to the bedroom while improving sleep quality. At the Intergenerational Penthouse, the great-grandparents’ bedroom is inspired by the frangipani tree as seen in the headwall and carpet. Grey vertical paneling on the headwall has an openable panel, which serves as a hidden door leading to the wardrobe. While the headwall is a colorful diamond-pattern design, the headrest features an art piece with colorful cotton balls.

• Furniture and furnishings

Find furniture pieces that complement the space, and enjoy adding or changing elements. At the Jagtap Residence, a leather seating area is fitted with a carpet made of horse leather. The white living room has accents of blue, gold, and black through a coffee table and soft furnishings. A console in the dining room acts as a canvas for customized veneer painting. At the Intergenerational Penthouse, a circular mirror creates light configurations in the lift lobby. Art installations using mirrors, fluted glass chandeliers, and other artifacts decorate the dining room.

• Pooja room

A pooja room depicts the traditional values of the family and must be designed with purity At the Intergenerational Penthouse, the wooden backdrop of the pooja room blends with the Sanskrit shlokas on the marble walls. The circular inlay on the floor replicated the domed ceiling with LED light strips, along with a black chandelier in the dining room.
