Kalayojan wins GFDA award for future-ready campus in Gulbarga

VTU's students can thank Ar. Sanjay Porwal and his team at Kalayojan for their award-winning campus. The Visvesvaraya  Technological Institute in Gulbarga, Karnataka has won a Global Future Design Award in the institutional building category. Kalayojan fought off internationally competing firms to win this coveted award.
Speaking for his team, comprising architects Kshama Rane and Pathik Joshi, architect Sanjay Porwal said, “The campus is a very fine example of modern planning, but locally rooted traditional elements of Gulbarga's cultural and climatic city scape like domes, arches and screen walls and arcades have also been woven into the design. This project receiving an internationally acclaimed award is a celebration of locally born modern Indian architecture of tomorrow.”
Historic Islamic architecture dominates the city of Gulbarga. The planning revolved around the efforts to preserve the pictorial power of the space while at the same time bringing in connectivity within the campus. The campus is future-ready and also compliments the city’s architecture. Geometrical forms, domes, arcades and screen walls make the campus not only functionally competent, but also in sync with the city’s cultural background.
