New Delhi-based architecture firm GPM has designed Radisson Blu hotel in Jammu, inspired by the local spirit to celebrate life as it comes. The client wanted a hotel design that was luxurious, yet multi-functional and spacious. Spread over 1.72 acres, the hotel opens up to an inviting lobby featuring marble and granite flooring complementing the cream-colored walls. Separate entrance lobbies segregate hotel users and banquet users, which are eventually connected with a grand entrance staircase.

The firm has incorporated energy efficiency when designing the hotel using passive solar techniques and wind movement. A monolithic structure was created for efficient public health and fire-fighting engineering, creating extra space that was designed as an extension for the banquet halls. The main tower faces the East, which capitalizes on maximum sunlight intake during the day and reduces the need for artificial lighting. Apart from that, the space has been designed to receive natural light as far as possible with double-height glazing, which reduces the glare with vertical elevation. The structure has been made as eco-friendly as possible with green building engineering strategies to cut back on operational costs. In all, the Radisson Blu hotel showcases the blending of hi-end luxury with environmentally-sustainable consciousness.

Defining luxury in every step, the lounge opens up to flexible and fully-equipped meeting spaces that include a royal ballroom designed to house up to 2000 guests along with a pre-function room. A lawn has been constructed to entertain guests for pre-event cocktail sessions. The restaurants offering international cuisine options speak of detailed luxury using vivid colors, artwork, wall-hangings, and jali patterns. Magnificently-adorned ceilings, decorative light fixtures, and chandeliers attract special attention to the place. The banquet halls have been designed with a bi-color theme, while the meeting halls and conference halls spell formal aestheticism along with extensive use of wood. The health and wellness center is integrated with the pool and a bar looking over the magnificent sunsets, thus while offering a detox zone to the guests.

In contrast to the richly-decorated public spaces, the hotel rooms are relatively minimalistic and subdued to impart comfort and tranquillity.
