Portuguese design influence on Mumbai restaurant

Mumbai-based architecture and design firm Studio Osmosis has designed the Barcelos restaurant in Navi Mumbai. The design is targeted at the urban office-going community whose corporate offices were situated in the nearby areas. Spread over a 2345 sq ft carpet area, pops of color break the monotony and add life to the space.
The restaurant chain is named after a vibrant Portuguese town known for its culture, cuisine and the legend of the Barcelos rooster. A façade has been created with a clear and stained glass grid pattern inviting in natural light, after which a green outdoor space welcomes you in. A pergola grid ceiling adorned with fairy lights and hanging planters, complemented with colorful outdoor furniture make it an exquisite hangout joint at sundown. Different zones have been created with rustic material finishes set off with contrasting colors and patterns.
A warm and energetic color palette welcomes you indoors. Greens, yellows, and blues reflect the temperament of the town’s streets in the high-spirited design. A statement, live-edge community table paired with industrial hanging lights constitutes the central zone. The bar opens up to the ones seated outdoors and incorporates intricate tile grids on the front and back. The live kitchen creates an engagement between the chefs and the guest, and it is stylized with curios, plants and quirky artwork.
Stained glass and patterned tiles feature on the floor and tabletops, with outdoor furniture customized by Retyrement Plan. Customized pendant lights depicting the Portuguese blue pottery patterns are suspended from the industrial, open ceiling. Graphics and curios representing the origins of the brand are displayed around the seating zone. Columns and walls clad in green subway tiles mimic the grids of the façade, with community seating, booth seating and the bar balancing the formal seating.
