Biophilic space for Mumbai spa and wellness center

Mumbai-based interior design firm Studio HBA has designed the Six Senses Spa and Wellness Centre at Lodha World One, Lower Parel. In 2017, the firm was asked to design a biophilic space where residents could rejuvenate their physical and mental well-being, yet with the elements of luxury.

A modern eclectic space was created with materials such as unpolished marble, rough granite, selvage wood, and brass trims have been used. A double-height live green wall is the most significant design feature, which visually guides the guests down the stairs to the reception and gymnasium. Symbolizing easy luxury, the wall naturally purifies the air as well. Bringing vibrancy and relaxation to the patron, the wall leads to the entrance of the spa.

A floating display and work table give a futuristic look to the spa, retail, and reception area. Ceiling portals in the gymnasium are made from recycled timber, with a live green wall on the other side of the window. One will find niche details in the wall, finished in raw granite stone.

The café features a live green wall that forms a soft backdrop to the spa café, which uses natural and renewable materials. The café table has been fashioned out of a large slab of recycled timber trunk with furniture made of recyclable rattan. Earthy colors such as white, brown and green give a sense of ‘rootedness’ to the spa.
