Eco-friendly design for New Delhi office

New Delhi-based AVA Design Studio has designed the AVA Office, which was to redesign their office for their millennial-friendly team on the second floor, which denoted a rebirth in their approach and ecosystem. The ambiance of a coffee shop and an office are brought together in its simple use of resources and an eco-friendly design.

Exposed brick with a motivational quote, ‘One Life: Design a story worth telling’ makes the backdrop for the stepped seating and projection walls. A rope feature structure separates the arena and the open office, while the ‘thinktank’ (conference room) has an in-house hand-painted ‘flora wall’ with plants outside the large windows. The other meeting spaces, nicknamed the Glass Box, focus on the second rendition of flowers, this time on a white backdrop.

The reception counter blends into the stepped area, which creates a ramp-like feature to be used as a social space. A rotating chequered metal raised counter acts as the podium for electronic gadgets to be connected to the AV system. Booth seating and library areas are designed for casual conversation, with cabins faced in glass to allow visual connectivity. The paneling of the booth seating is made from locally-sourced recycled palate wood, along with MS sections and girders. The café with a spill-out terrace is connected to a retro-inspired and self-service open pantry.

Speaking of sustainable aspects, an exposed ceiling shows the girders and ducts in coffee, cocoa, and caramel tones. Open views and minimal partitions visually expand and connect the space. A combination of cement and printed tiles are used in the café, while grey and ochre nylon carpets add earthiness to the office. Locally-manufactured furniture from Jodhpur and LED lights to render a ‘Made in India’ philosophy with no need to import material.
