Mediterranean aesthetics for New Delhi café

Photographer: Café Tesu

New Delhi-based Design Ethics Architecture Studio has designed the Café Tesu at Essex, converting a pre-existing bakery into an all-day breakfast café that resonates with all age groups. The client wanted a café that reflected its modern European and Mediterranean essence.

Spread over 450 sq. ft., pastel teal-blue exteriors are punctured with large arched windows, further detailed with neoclassical cast-iron elements finished in oxidized black. Earthy tones are interspersed with bare white and beige walls and enhanced by greenery, leading to an elegant experience. A handcrafted material palette by the designers creates a soothing atmosphere with a choice of colors, art, and novelties.

The space is segregated into two sections with a punctured wall; one is a large dining area that gains its aesthetic from a modern bar station and central wine-rack installation while the other area is a mythical forest with innovative planter lights. Enhanced with contemporary low-poly murals in pastel tones, the private area doubles up as a spot for art events.
