Minimalist modernism for Mumbai office

Photography: Sagar Karnik

Mumbai-based Pentaspace Design Studio has designed the Atharv Office, which is a commercial project spanning 7000 sq. ft. It is located in a three-storeyed building in a quiet, tree-lined residential colony in the suburbs, and is designed and executed entirely during the Covid-19 lockdown. It maintains warmth and luxury in a minimalist modern workplace, belonging to a residential developer who wanted to display his luxury residential projects to potential clients. Natural lights flow in despite the limited number of windows and illuminate the office by reflecting on the glass panels.

The reception on the ground floor is followed by the industrial-style first floor in grey, white and brown, usually populated by the young team. Designed as a minimal contemporary space, it uses bright colors and colored glass panels to demarcate the zones. The two directors occupy private lounges on the second and third floors with their legal, business, and sales teams. It begins with a curved wooden wall separating the lobby from the interiors, offering privacy to visiting clients in the sales lounge and gallery.

Interiors are left open with glass partitions visually expanding the limited floor space, and the kitchen, recreation, and utility are designated to the unused corners as per Vaastu guidelines. Due to the prevalence of client meetings and project walkthroughs on this floor, the firm uses polished marble, glossy veneer and laminate, wall paneling, and fabric. Bespoke furniture, metal artwork, and shelving systems are installed, along with a laser-cut metal backlit panel depicting the client’s notable projects, metal shelving, and display case, suspended art frames, and potted plants.
