Terracotta brick design for New Delhi home decor store

New Delh-based Renesa Architects has designed The Terramater, which was to design the brand’s first showroom in India and create a comfortable, contemporary and aesthetic space.

Red bricks in a series of adjunctions set the tone for the brand’s identity. The plan poses a rectangular volume with arched niches to invite natural light, and the structure pushes the boundary to act as a gallery where the sculptures and products are displayed.

Simple curves and diagonals in the final design intersperse to create receptacles of the display. Essentially a home décor store, these different shapes form the spatial ideology and a frame for these products. The semi-enclosed volumes offer multiple access points that overlap with the monolithic structure, which acts as the gallery.

Raw concrete texture resonates with the terracotta bricks, creating a transitory space curated like a showroom and gallery. Natural colors and textural variation in the material scheme ensure that the spaces can be customized according to the products. The Terramater is an indigenous and deconstructed structure that experiences constant change and experimentation, yet celebrates the prominence of brick in the Indian context.
