Blend of tradition and modernity for Mumbai residence

Photography: Nikhil H. Patel

Mumbai-based Gautam Shewa Architects has designed the Perennial Home, which is a three-generation residence spanning 1500 sq. ft.  Following the Rajasthani style of design, the home follows arched niches, paintings, and bespoke art. The entry door opens up to the living room, which in turn has a pastel color palette and classical design elements, followed by the mantra wall that adds spirituality to the design. The living room has arches, chandeliers, a breakfast, and a jhoola as a blend of traditional and modern design.

Custom-made arches are designed closer to the kitchen, which follows a functional indoor-outdoor ambiance. One finds Spanish tiles, a breakfast table, monotone textures, and a pure white kitchen tabletop for an informal sophisticated space. The master bedroom features blush pink with mauve and teal accents, with wooden panels and a painted bathroom door camouflaged in the walls. The bright blue bathroom with terrazzo tiles, and pops of grey and green, draw attention.

The second bedroom uses a Jaipurian design with lotus carvings and woodwork for a traditional element, with lotus inlays on the bed poles and wardrobe. The bathroom is an immersive experience and reminds one of a Turkish hammam. The third bedroom follows a tropical design with rich green wallpaper a wardrobe that seamlessly blends in with horizontal wooden handles, and a bathroom with Satvario tiles.
