Chic interiors blended with smart exteriors for Bengaluru business hotel
Bengaluru-based architecture and design firm Studio 3C has designed the B+L Hotel in Hyderabad, which targets at young business executives who enjoy both work and leisure. With a chic interior, the business hotel spells affordability yet luxury that would be welcomed by its guests. A strategy of porosity was decided upon to shape the 55-key hotel located on a corner facing a park.
The double-height entrance lobby and restaurant flows down onto the manicured hotel garden. The windows are left transparent to maximize the views of the park, while the service areas are concentrated on the other side. The other two sides open towards the public streets and a porous, tessellated zinc skin covers the façade, resembling a pixelated virtual screen. The scaled tessellations seem wide or narrow depending on the guest’s perspective. The skin allows for proper air circulation, while the Oriel windows jut out of the windows, which gives one the feeling of a ‘suspended outdoor’ while within the climactic ambiance of the room. The tessellated skin reduces the AC load and glare within the rooms, while an STP structure allows no wastage of water.
The park is connected to a walking path for easy accessibility. The outer edge of the restaurant features a skylight that allows the northern light to flow in. The hotel windows overlook the park, while the high-property wall on the south adjoins the Banquet Hall. A pergola extends the Banquet Hall while protecting the guests from the southern sun. Entering the colourfully-patterned corridor, the 6-floor “dancing” staircase seems hidden or visible depending on one’s perspective. It not just offers privacy to the rooms, but encourages the guests to take the stairs instead of the lift.
Minimalistic furniture, open wardrobes, and steel mesh chairs open up the room as does the interior décor. The bathrooms are transparent with glass doors and partitions with a privacy screen that can be slid back. The chic color palette follows the guest through the lobby and the dancing staircase culminating in a skylight at the terrace floor to the gymnasium. The terrace has a guest laundry with a large outdoor area offering one spectacular view of Hyderabad.
