Mumbai-based Thinkcutieful has designed the Minda, which is an enchanting nursery for a newborn that required adherence to Vaastu principles and colour bursts. The space is designed as a dreamy but functional space for a baby and is layered with playful design features but devoid of extravagant detailing. An unused guest room adjacent to the client’s bedroom is chosen for the nursery spanning 500 sq. ft. and uses a soothing design suitable for both parent and child inspired by a calming lullaby.

The parents also wanted a gender-neutral space, and the bed and wardrobes are designated on the same side. A gentle colour palette allows the motifs and accessories to stand out, alongside customised contemporary wallpaper. In harmony with the rest of the Vaastu-friendly home, the nursery uses lemon yellow, warm peach, soft green and blue in its pastel colour palette. The room is so arranged to transition to a toddler’s requirements as well, through ample storage space.

A cabinet by the window is partially concealed to store baby essentials and has accessible shelves and pull-out drawers. Flanked by wardrobes, a pastel-green bed is the focal point of the room with a velvet-upholstered headboard in a rainbow pattern. Cabinets with fluted doors mirror the pale-green fluted panel inserts of the toy and book storage unit nearby. The baby’s sleeping, nursing and changing zones are carefully designed to accommodate a changing station and a comfortable feeding chair for the mother.

Hot air balloons and a chandelier modelled after a fluffy cloud appear to drift by, surrounded by forest critters. Wooden handles designed as rabbits, a cloud-shaped table and animal-themed wallpaper are customised details. An existing window is extended into a large day window with visitor seating and uses linen-based sheer curtains and cotton drapery. A customised wooden mirror and a sunshine-yellow cabinet are set against a geometric tiled panel to add a splash of colour and make bath time fun.
