Minimalism for Bhilwara residence

Photography: Ar. Ayush Ostwal

Bhilwara-based The Living Lab has designed the Casa Melange, a residential project spanning 3600 sq. ft. The home uses indigenous materials and fabrics, also using a neutral color palette with pops of color. One enters to find the hanging lamps from the ceiling at the entrance, leading them to the guest area. They see the shoe rack and seating on one side and the drawing room on the other, and the spaces are blended by demolishing the walls. The partition is created using teakwood, glass, and linen fabric.

Gray walls complement the bright-colored furniture in the living room, followed by the living hall in shades of grey and brown. The dining space leads to multiple rooms such as the grandparent’s room on one side, a common washroom, and a guest room. The television panel is made of kadappa stone, complementing the bright yellow furnishings. The staircase opposite the kitchen uses black Italian marble and leads up to the bedrooms on the first floor. The slab on the top is left partially open to allow in natural light, and the jaali pattern creates an interplay of light and shadow.

The master bedroom features a four-poster bed, a mauve sofa, and the en suite washroom decorated with blue Morrocan-patterned tiles. The children’s bedroom follows a minimalist theme with large glass windows bringing in natural sunlight, complete with wall artwork.
