Multi-faceted design for Hyderabad experience centre

Mumbai-based Studio Design Inc. has designed the Colosseum, which is a multi-faceted experience center displaying products across several verticals. The seven-story building spans two lakh sq. ft. The firm had to design, build and engineer the project in nine months, and the timeline was reverse-engineered to correlate with the material and concept deliverables. One enters through a grand entrance into the expansive space where biophilic elements are added to create a distinctive atmosphere.

The first two floors are named Plinth and Zenith and host multiple high-end luxury setups designed with interconnected passages, which branch out into smaller setups that highlight the contemporary pieces. All of these zones are divided by strategically-placed planters, reinforcing the biophilic concept – including the Tree of Life installation by Alex Davis Studio X Studio Design Inc. The Plinth and Zenith are connected by a double-height space housing an installation by Ankon Mitra.

The third floor, Maze, is designed as a series of interwoven passages opening up to different curated furniture arrangements in smaller formats. This level combines modern and contemporary furniture, along with displaying the ‘Cells’ installation.

The ‘Kiosk’ on the fourth floor is a standalone pavilion integrated with smaller kiosks, housing brands such as Scarlet Splendour, Wriver, Klove, Pods of Desire, Ravi Vazirani Design Studio, Design Ni Dukaan and Escape by Kreatonomy. Bespoke furniture by Indian and international designers, specifically curated for the brands is showcased here. ‘The Abacus Reinterpreted’ installation is designed by Ikai Asai and Studio Design Inc.

The fifth floor, ‘Box’, houses setups around kitchen and wardrobe elements, and represents structure, function, and form. Following the dual ideas of constructing and deconstructing, the concept involves a box using a combination of doors, windows, and partitions from Metra – showcasing in-house brands such as Cube and D&W. The Art x Design x Sustainability installation by Nimrat Narang X Studio Design Inc. focuses on saving waste materials and creating art pieces out of them.

The sixth floor, Library, features soft furnishings such as wallpaper, carpets, cushions, curtains, and ceramics. It is placed in a light, spacious, and luxurious European setting. Each area has a seating space where visitors can select their choice of reading leisure. The Emotions of the Forest installation is designed by Stitch Story X Shades of India X Studio Design Inc.

The Vault on the seventh symbolizes the light at the end of a tunnel and is dedicated to lighting, art, and accessories. It is designed as a long grey tunnel opening up into individual dedicated areas. The project also gives equal recognition to artists and artisans through thoughtfully-placed installations to give back to the design community. The space houses multiple design installations throughout the seven floors collaborating with Alex Davis, Ankon Mitra, Ikai Asai, Nimrat Narang, Stitch Story, and Shades of India.
