White flower-patterned jaali for Mumbai home

Mumbai-based Traansformation Design Studio has designed the Mamledar Residency, or the Murdeshwar Residence for a couple and their teenage children. Spread over 1750 sq. ft., the client wanted a clutter-free design with easy-to-maintain furniture.
One is welcomed into the entrance made out of toughened back-painted glass, sees a white Corian flower-patterned jaali dividing the living spaces. Grey William marble flooring doesn’t need to be cleaned so often, while leftover white Statuario marble pieces are reused to create the center table. Champagne leafing is used on the ceiling, further highlighted with a crystal chandelier. Copper and mirror stripes are used in the TV unit, with a blue pearl countertop. A wall featured artwork in polished and unpolished Jaisalmer and Kota stone, while the L-shaped sofa has an attached side table at handrest position.
White and yellow lighting fixtures create moods, such as the backlit laser-cut jaali for the mandir in the informal room or master bedroom. The air-conditioners are covered with PU-coated wooden louvers, to visually conceal them. The same blue pearl countertop is used for the kitchen, with adequate storage space.
Veneer and mirror make up the master bedroom door, which was to be lightweight and without handles. Crema Marfil marble adds a grainy look, adding to the stark black-and-white décor. Tube lights behind the jaali are stuck on acrylic sheets to prevent it from collecting dust and keeping it maintenance-free. White Statuario and black Marquina marble are used for the master bathroom, along with large mirrors, storage, and mirrored doors. ACP ceilings prevent moisture accumulation in the space, lit up with indirect lighting.
A wood-and-white combination is used for the son’s bedroom, along with wooden flooring. In the daughter’s bedroom, purple shades are used on the wardrobes, storage units, and a study area. An ornamented trolley bed, velvet cushions, and side tables match the ‘princess’ theme chosen for her. The den comprises the mandir, a low-seating sofa (for back support), and a set of drawers – and could be converted into a party or guest room as needed.
